Aspire Treneere and Social Value
WMS partnered with LiveWest, utilising the South West Procurement Alliance’s (SWPA) framework and procurement services, to deliver improvements and refurbishments to over 300 homes on the Aspire Treneere Estate, in Penzance.
Improving the look and feel of the area, the Treneere Project has helped to improve the energy efficiency of LiveWest’s homes and reduce energy bills for its residents.
SWPA’s Whole House Refurbishment and Associated Works (WH2) Framework was intended for the delivery of either individual measures or for the refurbishment of buildings using multiple measures, which were utilised in this project.
The framework provides local authorities, housing associations and other social landlords with easy access to contractors who can deliver refurbishment works. This framework has now been superseded by SWPA’s brand new framework, Refurbishment and Modernisation (RM3). This framework provides public sector organisations with an efficient, value for money procurement route to deliver important refurbishment, improvement and modernisation projects that ensure their buildings are well maintained and improves the lives of tenants and occupants within them.
WMS were the successful contractor in securing the Aspire Treneere Project to improve the energy efficiency of LiveWest’s homes. Tailoring to the needs of each individual home, the works included roof coverings and replacements, new windows and doors, and rainwater goods. As part of the project, it was agreed that social value contributions needed to be organised to invest in, engage with and give back to the community.
WMS organised and delivered a community planting area and supported the Aspire Treneere Clean Up Day as well, along with social housing provider LiveWest, who continue to invest in its communities.
Along with the Clean Up Day, the community requested an accessible raised garden bed to grow edible plants. With WMS and LiveWest’s support, the partners bought the materials and began building the planter with railway sleepers. This project was launched with a planting morning and litter pick with local residents, and community groups in attendance.
WMS’ social value contributions concluded by landscaping and paving the communal area at the ‘Whole Again’ Community Centre and sponsoring the Treneere Children’s Christmas Party presents.
