Case Study Profile: The Gloucester Foodbank

SWPA have established a community benefit fund, with our delivery partner South West Community Matters. Together we have focused our fund to small community groups so that we can achieve the most impact. The Gloucester Food Bank doesn’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why they provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis.

Number of Beneficiaries: In 2023-2024 Gloucester Food bank provided 17,037 emergency food & toiletry parcels to individuals and families with children including infants just weeks old who lack the funds to buy food.

Activities Undertaken: The Gloucester Foodbank have individuals and families referred to them by the Council, Citizens Advice Bureau, Schools, Age Concern and other agencies. Firstly, they will provide people with 3 days food to stop the immediate emergency and then consider how to tackle their ongoing need. They also work with other aid agencies who can refer people in need using their voucher system which can be exchanged at the foodbank for a 3-day food parcel.
